Nutrition for Seniors

* ATTENTION! There is an edit for the December 2023 Nutrition Handout: The Friendship Line is no longer servicing our area. If you would like to speak to someone for any reason (loneliness, to talk through a problem, to check in on you, etc.) please call 2-1-1, the United Way hotline. They can put you in touch with services in your area.

* CCE, SC has been providing nutrition education and counseling for elderly Schenectady County residents for over twenty years through contracts with Schenectady County Senior and Long Term Care Services (SCSLTCS). The CCE, SC Registered Dietitian provides nutrition education on a regular basis for seniors participating at Friendship Cafes or receiving home delivered meals program.

In addition, such educational opportunities are provided upon request at:
Senior Centers,
Senior Communities,
Other Service Organizations,
Health Fairs, Job and Career Fairs, and Farmer's Markets.

* The Registered Dietitian also provides nutrition counseling for any senior participating in services offered by the SCSLTCS due to their health status or nutrition risk.

* CCE, SC provides guidance and menu planning to SCSLTCS and the subcontracted meal providers, Mazzone's Catering, 518 Kosher and Simone's Kitchen for Meals on Wheels and the Friendship Cafes.

* CCE, SC also provides programs by trained Master Gardeners on topics such as growing herbs and micro greens and how to use them.
