Recycling Guide for Landlords

Trash Free Neighborhoods

Schenectady County Recycles believes we can make Schenectady County neighborhoods more environmentally sustainable communities by choosing to recycle and reduce waste.

Schenectady County Recycles can offer resources and support for property managers, landlords, and tenants who wish to improve their recycling programs.

Landlords: always inform your tenants that recycling is mandatory as per state law, and provide them with a list of the items they can recycle at home. Inform tenants that they are responsible for the safe disposal of Household Hazardous Waste and should not leave behind toxic chemicals upon moving out. Ask your tenants to reduce litter, and to safely recycle electronics and donate unwanted furniture that's in useful condition.

Did you know? Habitat for Humanity will pick up large furniture donations for free! Call 518-395-3412 ext. 101

Take the Pledge

Print our Recycling Pledge and hang it in a communal space in your apartment building, such as a mail room, a laundry room, an elevator, etc. to promote recycling in your building.

Print and distribute our Resident Recycling Fact Sheet for each of your tenants.
